About Us

Our History

City Music started out as a small retail store opened in Gardner, MA in 2003 by Marc Rines and Nancy Karuzis. It now consists of two retail stores and a thriving online business that is owned and operated by father and son team, Marc and Stephen Rines.

Marc is a long-time musician who’s been composing and performing since he was 18. He has extensive experience running and maintaining music programs and product lines. Because of the original store’s success, Marc opened a second store in Leominster, MA in 2006, with a hands-on approach and a real knowledge of what both up-and-coming and working musicians need.

Stephen Rines is a graduate of UMASS Amherst with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Prior to college, Stephen created an online business selling music gear. This project has led to City Music’s robust online presence, including a strong presence with City Music Annex on eBay, Reverb and Amazon. Stephen was also nominated as part of the Best of eBay competition in 2017.

To achieve this, we negotiate with vendors to get you the best pricing and keep an eye on our internet competition. We are always on the lookout for new and exciting gear that can enhance your creative musical spirit and make the experience of making music even more fun!

Supporting Our Local Community

At our local stores, our lesson studios host many of the area’s most talented and credentialed performing musicians, teaching a variety of instruments and styles.

Community is important to us and we are grateful to the ongoing support of our Gardner and Leominster communities. In gratitude for that support, we have held FutureStars Showcases enabling teens to perform at a local concert venue. Proceeds from these events have enabled us to donate over $25,000 to the Leominster and Gardner school music programs.

We are proud to say that some of the young musicians that first played on our FutureStars stage have gone on to become professional performers.
